Simply Works Core 1.5.4

Simply Works Core 1.5.4 was released today and available at:

One of the most common questions I receive is: “How do I turn off comment?” . I was reluctant to add this feature to the theme since you can turn off comments in WordPress under discussion.

The latest free version as a new theme option section called Page/Post Options. Here you can turn off (or back on) Comments, Author, Date, Categories (filed under in this theme), and Tags site wide, easily without losing your individual post setting, if you ever decide to change back just turn them back on. It a simple “override” that Simply Works!

There is bug in the Simply Works Core 1.5.2 for adding your Google Analytics code through the theme options. The fix has been submitted to WordPress.org has version 1.5.3 and it is available at:

Just released Simply Works Core 1.5.2 WordPress Theme. This release was a complete review and rewrite of the code to update the theme and to make the code more flexible moving forward. A few new features where changed or added including:

New one page for theme options
Comments completely restyled
Background issues bug corrected
Data security updated and improved

Again, this release was a necessary step for future theme options and development.

Technical Details

- Removed – Check for theme option swc_analytics_code from the header.php
- Added – wp_head function to functions.php to check if theme option is set.
- Correction – added swc prefix to $options varible in the header.php
- Removed – The feed declaration in Line 17 of header.php automatic feed are supported
- Bug Fix – 404.php add text domain to the title

- Combined all theme option into a single options array ‘swc_theme_options’
- Combined all theme option setting into a single Theme Options page
- Bug Fix – Added CSS “clear” to the 404 and search page to fix a background issue.
- Removed – assets folder – swc_custom_logo_image, Swc_header_code, swc_sidebar_selection, swc_theme_color
- Bug Fix – Editor Style – correct the way List are displayed in the editor view

Eight Widget Areas

Simply Works Core Theme has eight widget areas. All eight areas are “off” by default. You need to add content for them to show.

Go to: Appearance > Widgets to add your content

Added template for full width page
Correct image display issues if the related post plugin is used
Added a Fourth sidebar widget area below the 2 narrow sidebars to allow more flexiblity in layout
Changed – Default sidebar top to “off” – in 1.4.6 it displayed pages by default. Move inside loop in sidebar.php
Added - add_editor_style so as to make the editor content match the resulting post output in the theme, for a better user experience.
Correct – Sidebar selection text error, radio button selection and show image.

Embed Video

All you need to do to embed something into a post or page is to post the URL to it into your content area. Make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post).

WordPress will automatically embed your YouTube video form a simple link .

Check the “Auto-embeds” check box in Administration > Settings > Media SubPanel. This Option should be selected by default.
